To assist choreographers, most prior work has focused on designing digital tools to support the last three stages of the choreography process, with the preparation stage being the least explored. To address this research gap, we introduce an AI-based approach to assist the preparation stage by supporting ideation, creating choreographic prototypes, and documenting creative attempts and outcomes.

By analyzing a track’s rhythm, melody, tempo changes, and dynamic contrasts, AI can suggest corresponding dance movements that align closely with the music’s structure and feel. Choreographers can adjust parameters, such as intensity or complexity, and let the system automatically propose steps that match musical accents, phrasing, and thematic motifs.

The editability allows choreographers as well as dancers to constantly enhance their movements by adding specific poses at strategic times. The additional information is subsequently incorporated automatically into the sequence by EDGE.
